Just a short drive from Phoenix, Saguaro National Park is a desert dream come true. Split into two districts (East and West) bracketing Tucson, the park offers golden sunsets, giant saguaro forests, and hikes for every level. With your Moto Nation RV as your basecamp, you’ll enjoy the perfect mix of adventure, serenity, and Southwestern flavor.
Day 1: Roll Into the Desert
Pick up your RV in Phoenix and hit the road to Gilbert Ray Campground, a beautiful and highly rated RV-friendly site on the western edge of the park (Saguaro West). Once settled in, take a scenic cruise down Gates Pass Road, a stunning drive known for its mountain views and sunset lookout points.
Lunch Stop (en route): Grab flavorful carne asada tacos and horchata at Seis Kitchen – Mercado District in Tucson before heading into the park. It’s a local fave with fresh, authentic eats.
Afternoon Activity: Visit the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (just 10 minutes from the campground). It’s part zoo, part botanical garden, and totally immersive—perfect for kids and adults alike.
Dinner: Cook up a casual RV dinner with groceries from Trader Joe’s Tucson or opt for takeout from Tucson Tamale Company—they offer gluten-free and vegan tamales, too!
Evening: Set up your camp chairs and watch the sky turn pink and purple behind the saguaros—Saguaro National Park is known for its magical desert sunsets.
Day 2: Sunrise to Starshine
Rise early for a hike through the Valley View Overlook Trail or the Signal Hill Trail—both offer short, rewarding views and great photo ops with blooming desert flora (especially if it’s spring).
Breakfast: Enjoy breakfast at your RV with local eggs, fruit, and Sonoran tortillas—or stop at Prep & Pastry in Tucson for an upscale brunch experience (highly rated and worth the wait!).
Midday Fun: If you’re up for more, visit the Desert Discovery Nature Trail or book a guided horseback riding tour through the desert with Houston’s Horseback Riding nearby—great for families and adventure-seekers alike.
Lunch: Dine at El Charro Café, Arizona’s oldest Mexican restaurant with unbeatable tamales and chimichangas.
Afternoon: Head to Saguaro East (Rincon Mountain District) for a scenic loop drive through Cactus Forest Drive, stopping at Javelina Rocks for sunset views and short hikes.
Dinner: Grab wood-fired pizza at Falora in Tucson, or enjoy another home-cooked RV dinner while soaking in the starry desert skies.
Day 3: Farewell Views & Tucson Charm
Ease into your final day with a peaceful morning walk through the Bajada Loop Drive (West side), which features pull-offs, picnic spots, and trails like Desert Wash and Valley View.
Breakfast: Pick up a cold brew and breakfast burrito from Cartel Roasting Co., a trendy local coffee spot known for strong coffee and chill vibes.
Late Morning: Before heading back to Phoenix, explore Historic 4th Avenue in Tucson—packed with vintage shops, murals, and unique souvenirs.
Return your Moto Nation RV filled with memories, desert dust, and tons of cactus photos.
